Tips to Get Started
It can feel hard to start and keep a new healthy habit, but it’s worth it. Use the following tips to help get started:
- State your “why”: Why do you want to make this change? Write it down and post it somewhere where you can see it every day to keep you focused and motivated.
- Set a goal: Set specific and realistic goals that work with your schedule.
- “I’ll walk 30 minutes before and after work, 3 days this week.”
- Start small and slow: Small successes make bigger goals feel easier. Add a little bit to your healthy habit every few days or weeks.
- “I’ll start with 10 minutes of physical activity and add 5 minutes next week.”
- Make it fun: Make the habit fun so you are excited about it.
- Try a new activity, play some music, or make a game out of it. Invite a loved one to join you on a walk or cook a healthy meal together.
- Track your progress: Take notes on how your healthy habit is going. This will hold you accountable and figure out what is and isn’t working. Use your phone or write it down.
- Recognize your success: How will you celebrate your hard work while also supporting your health goals? This could include taking time for your favorite hobbies, relaxing, or treating yourself to something on your wish list
