Alternative care refers to healing practices that you can do along with your regular health care. These practices may be related to your culture, traditions and other beliefs. Some examples of alternative care include positive thinking, stress management, yoga, meditation, acupuncture, tai chi, and massage therapy. You can add these types of care to the health care you are already getting from your doctor. However, before you start any type of alternative care, you should talk to your doctor.
Although HPSM does not provide any alternative care programs, we have provided some information and resources on positive thinking and stress management. Note that some alternative care practices like massage therapy or acupuncture are not free.
