Sharing special occasions with loved ones can be one of life’s greatest joys. The better you feel physically and mentally, the more you can enjoy your time with family and friends. Use these tips to stay healthy, safe and less stressed this season – and throughout the new year.
Don’t get sick — get vaccinated
In winter, people may get sick more easily because they spend more time indoors together. Getting vaccinated can help keep you healthy. Ask your primary care provider (PCP) if you or your child should get these vaccines:
Flu Everyone over six months old should get this vaccine every year by the end of October. Getting it later still helps you stay healthy and is better than not getting it at all. Learn more.
COVID-19 The vaccine is recommended for people six months and older who choose protection and those at risk of severe illness, such as infants, pregnant people and older adults. Learn more.
Pneumonia Children under five should get a series of pneumococcal vaccines starting at two months old. Adults 50 and older should get vaccinated. People between 5 and 49 with certain conditions should ask their PCP if they would benefit from getting this vaccine. Learn more.
To avoid catching and spreading viruses:
- Stay home if you’re sick
- Wash your hands often
- Try to avoid contact with sick people
- Clean surfaces that are touched often
- If you sneeze, cover your nose and mouth with an elbow or tissue
