Virtual Dental Care (Teledentistry)

Virtual dental care lets you talk with a dentist or Oral Health Coach on-demand anytime from anywhere by live video call. You can also send photos and text about oral health concerns for a dental expert to address.

  • Video calls with a dentist can help with routine or urgent oral health concerns. If you have tooth pain, the dentist can prescribe medicine and refer you to an in-person dentist. When you need a second opinion, virtual dentistry is an easy way to get one.
  • Online Oral Health Coaching can help you with general oral health care. Expert Care Advisors can answer your questions, give you oral care tips and help you make an appointment with an in-person dentist.

HPSM Dental covers virtual dental care through our partner, Dentistry.One. Members pay no cost for this benefit.

How virtual dental care helps

  • Get dental care at home. This helps if you are nervous about going to the dentist or it’s hard for you to travel or you’re homebound.
  • Get urgent dental advice at home. A virtual dental expert can tell you how urgently you need to see an in-person dentist and can even refer you to one. They can also tell you if there are ways to take care of your symptoms at home in the meantime.
  • Get dental care right away. No driving to and waiting in the emergency room while you’re in pain.
  • Get dental care in less time. Not needing to visit a dentist’s office helps fit oral care into your schedule.

Learn how oral health improves overall health. It’s even more vital if you are pregnant or have a chronic condition (such as diabetes or cardiovascular disease).

How to get virtual dental care

1. Set up your account online.

2. Choose the option that’s best for you:

  • Have a virtual visit with a dentist right away.
  • Schedule a virtual visit for later.
  • Send pictures for a dentist to review.

3. Check your email for your recommended next steps.

To get virtual dental care, you will need a smartphone, tablet or laptop. Your device must have a microphone, camera and internet. To get interpreter services during a virtual dental session, tell the person you are talking to.

Although dental emergencies are rare, there are a few life-threatening situations that require immediate supervision. Learn more.
