Regular dental visits are key to your oral health and total wellness. Along with daily brushing and flossing, dental care helps prevent tooth decay (cavities), the single most common chronic disease. Without preventive care, tooth decay can cause mouth pain, infection and other health problems.

HPSM Medi-Cal and CareAdvantage members have HPSM Dental! Be sure to call HPSM Dental for all your dental care needs. When you see the dentist, tell them you are covered by HPSM Dental. Learn about all your dental benefits, covered services and more.

Covered dental services

There is no limit for covered, medically necessary dental services. Your dental provider can help pick the best treatment and find out which services you can get through HPSM Dental. Some of the services covered include:

Children (up to 21 years old):

  • Dental exams and teeth cleanings every four to six months (based on your risk for cavities)
  • Orthodontics (braces) are covered when medically necessary or when correction is needed
  • Emergency services as often as needed

Adults (21 and older):

  • Dental exams once a year
  • Teeth cleaning twice a year
  • Emergency services as often as needed

You may be able to get extra services if you live in a nursing facility or intermediate care facility or if you are pregnant. To learn more, look in your plan’s Member Handbook.

During a dental visit, the dentist may:

  • Give you a mouth exam
  • Ask about your diet
  • Give you x-rays to look for problems
  • Talk to you about oral health
  • Schedule your next appointment when you are done
