At HPSM “heathy is for everyone” is a reflection of our respect and service to San Mateo County’s diverse population. Our goal is to make sure that every person we cover has equal access to quality health care. As we celebrate our diverse member population, we also recognize that the health care experiences of all groups are not equal, which affects their ability to get quality care. The first step to addressing this inequity is education.  

In May, we celebrated AAPI Heritage Month by using our website and social media platforms to highlight programs HPSM offers as well as community resources. We also spotlighted some of the AAPI health care trailblazers who have advanced the field of medicine over the decades. For example, we posted about one of our providers, North East Medical Services (NEMS). They are one of the largest non-profit community health centers in the U.S. primarily serving the medically underserved AAPI population. They have 15 Bay Area medical clinics—including a brand-new facility in Daly City! 

June is LGBTQIA+ Pride Month, an annual celebration of the vibrant LGBTQIA+ community. During this time, we’re demonstrating our commitment to providing high-quality care and services to members of every sexual orientation and gender identity. For example, we’re using our website and social media platforms to educate people about how to support their LGBTQIA+ family members, friends, neighbors and coworkers, including what services and resources are available to members, as well as where to access them. We’re also promoting local Pride events happening throughout the month and the San Mateo Pride Center as a valuable community resource. Their events in June included LGBTQIA+ support groups, training webinars and a Pride celebration.
