National Provider Identifier Update

NPI Required starting in December

As of December 1st 2008, all provider claims must be submitted with a National Practitioner Identifier (NPI), irrespective of the date of service for a claim. This requirement applies to electronic and paper claims.

Claims received on or after December 1, 2008 without an NPI will be denied.

This requirement applies to all submissions:

  • Treatment Authorization Requests
  • Medication Request Forms
  • Referral Authorization Forms
  • Claim Inquiry Forms
  • Provider Claims Appeals Forms
  • All correspondence with HPSM

HPSM urges providers who have not yet submitted their NPIs to do so immediately.
