National Provider Identifier Update
NPI Required starting in December
As of December 1st 2008, all provider claims must be submitted with a National Practitioner Identifier (NPI),
irrespective of the date of service for a claim. This requirement applies to electronic and paper claims.
Claims received on or after December 1, 2008 without an NPI will be denied.
This requirement applies to all submissions:
- Treatment Authorization Requests
- Medication Request Forms
- Referral Authorization Forms
- Claim Inquiry Forms
- Provider Claims Appeals Forms
- All correspondence with HPSM
HPSM urges providers who have not yet submitted their NPIs to do so immediately.
